Description
Happy Buddha (Budai)
Budai is traditionally depicted as a fat, bald man wearing a robe and wearing or carrying prayer beads. He carries his few possessions in a cloth sack, being poor but happy. Budai appears throughout Chinese culture as a representation of contentment and is admired for his happiness, generosity, and wisdom. One popular belief maintains that rubbing his belly brings good luck, and prosperity.
